hiya people, the last catalyst drivers from ATi version 7.2 played havoc on my system when i installed them, my screen would freeze and game would no longer run properly, rolling back the driver to the previous version fixed the problem, Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so is there any way to fix it or we waiting for a revised driver from ATi?

Hmm, I've not seen this happen so far on my PCs.

Well I instealled it and I got the Readon x300/x550 on mine and yeah I had a few problems of it freezing on me but keep this in mind:

1. ATI is just trying their best to give us some drivers for the cards that they got out there.
2. Remember Micorosoft is the one that is holding all the cards at this point until SP1 comes out.
So sorry that your having problems but you really shouldn't roll back games do play fine with me expecally now that Gametap fixed their problem with the ATI drivers.

I had an issue with the ATI Catalyst 7.2 drivers running on XP Pro (w/SP2).

I had run the Vista version of the ATI Catalyst 7.2 on the same machine on Vista Home Premium without isssue.

I am running the ATI X1950 XTX (512 MB) single card.

On XP Pro, the 'Core' component folder would launch in the form of a window containing a core file folder each time I booted up. I also noticed that the Catalyst launch string value was written to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER....Run key instead of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE....Run key.

Based on this observation, I am thinking that they are having issues creating the drivers to run in the 'User Mode' for Vista, and that this problem has made it's way to the current driver version for XP Pro.

I re-installed the ATI Catalyst 6.12 running on XP Pro and all is as sweet as it should be.

A new slogan for XP Pro might be: "It just works!"   - sorry Apple, I just had to borrow that one.

Based on the last couple of weeks using Vista final release, I have to say that it will be quite some time before either ATI or nVidia really provide a good set of drivers for the new OS (I have reverted back to XP for a while to enjoy true power user type performance).

thanks for everyones input, this could be a problem with my machine or maybe just a driver issue, i will wait a week or so and see if ATi release any revised updates, this is the first time i have ever had any sort of problem with ATi catalyst drivers and it kinda caught me by surprise , I am sure it will be sorted out soon enough.
