So this is the story. I had a few friends over the other night and were discussing various subjects and the subject of pride arose. I mentioned a story i had read somewhere (can't remember where) about a group of people who wanted to create and host a straight pride mardi gras. Well my so called friends were horrified. "oh how homophobic" were the comments i heard. So i piped up and said " so how come it's ok to be Gay and proud, Black and proud and muslim and proud" (i only use these as an example because these groups seem to be the main topic of tolerance and pride these days. I am a straight guy and i am proud, i am a white guy and i am proud and i am a catholic and proud. So according to these friends i am a homophobic, racist religious intolerant. Now i don't give a damn if your gay....big deal, i don't give a damn if your black.... big deal and i don't give a damn what religion you are...big deal, but i am the asshole because i happen to be proud of who i am... oh but no... i should be ashamed of being straight, white and catholic. i am so sick and tired of this double standard hypocracy that is infecting our society these days, mainly caused by a minority of hairy armpitted do gooders who unfortunately seem to make the most noise. The way i see it is.... screw political correctness, be proud of who you are and don't let anyone tell you that you should be ashamed to be who you are. are we not all human beings after all... since when does sexuality, colour and religious belief determine who you are. People seem so afraid of offending others that they are willing to sacrifice their own beliefs and opinions because they might be accused of hate or intolerance. The last time i looked tolerance is defined as respecting the beliefs and decisions of others. it's doesn't mean you have to accept it or believe in it, but it does mean you have no right to vilify someone else who believes different than you do, thats tolerance. The word has been so twisted by political correctness bullshit. Well thats my rant

I'll never forget the first time I got on IRC, all those years ago. It took me a while to actually believe I was talking (well, typing) in real time to a bunch of people in the other side of the world.

You're not....

....look out your window.....

Jafo is the one hiding behind the tree....not waving....

Oh, there you are!

Stop spying on me, you Aussie peeping tom!

You wanna ask him for the photos so there's no evidence.

I was gonna say negs, too, but he's likely to have joined the digital age by now, despite that persistent rumour that he's a bit slow.

Architecture was one field for 'early adopters' of digital cameras....my first was a Sony Mavica ....and the 'film' was 3.5" floppies....

Portuguese, didn't know that Jorge, thought you were American.

Some of the best skinners/people involved in skinning aren't American.

well, I know that, just wasn't aware in this instance.

well, I know that, just wasn't aware in this instance.

Now you know why political correctness is not exactly one my strongest points, eheh.

Architecture was one field for 'early adopters' of digital cameras..

... and rumour also has it that architecture was an early adopter of bricks and mortar as a construction medium.

Anyhow, all this talk of architecture, political correctness and sexual orientation has distracted us from the original point of this thread....

.... that Nimbin is an asshole (apparently)

Nimb's, me old mate, ow's it goin'?

Hi-tech ain't what it used to be.

0.3 Megapixel [VGA] .....took its time writing the image to the floppy.

I still have it.....may be a collector's item one day.... or a door stop ....

I'll say.... still looking for a decent left-handed hammer to replace the one I lost overboard when attempting running repairs to the ark.

No, not Noah's, the one we quickly threw together when it was flooding up here in '74.

0.3 Megapixel [VGA] .....took its time writing the image to the floppy.

I kinda have a Flintstones image going on here.... of a prehistoric bird transcribing the pic to a stone tablet with its beak.

I still have it.....may be a collector's item one day.... or a door stop ..

You never know, with numbers naturally dwindling over the years, it may end up becoming a museum piece in its antiquity.

I knew at a young age that I was a nice guy
but I had to conform to society.

on Oct 08, 2011

Well I was born at an early age....

..... and was largely shaped by society

..... until I developed my own unique personality.

Since then I have dared not to conform...

.... and some say I'm an asshole (apparently)

..... not that I care

... because It's only half true.

Quoting starkers, reply 86Well I was born at an early age....

Ah, but were you a dirty old man at a very young age?

Apparently I was.

According to my mother, she couldn't take me anywhere there were young women.  She said that even before I was a toddler I had a fascination with their cleavage and liked to fondle.

Hmmm, it seems political correctness wasn't my strongest suit even back then.

High five!

No doubt you'll be in PC trouble with somebody for that.  High fiving a politically incorrect person is as bad as being politically incorrect, I believe.

The thing that pisses me off so much about political correctness, apart from the fact it was brought into being by wooses, wingers, big girls blouses and total pussies, is that minority groups and politically correct advocates always seem to have a legitimate argument with officialdom, yet we of majority groups, and those who are not politically correct, are just whining when minority groups call us assholes.

Still, I'd rather be an asshole than afraid to open my mouth for fear of upsetting some nutless PC dweeb.  Frankly, I don't give a flying toss who I upset with my mother and father references.  They're who I grew up with... not to mention that I was/am one half of that equation to my kids.  In fact, if my kids ever referred to me as Parent 1 or Parent 2, I'd totally ignore them until I got the proper respect.  Moreso when they want something: "Hey da-a-ad..."

And another thing!  If my gay friends have no objection to me referring to them as poofs or lezzos, I'm not going to change just to suit some PC pundit with an axe to grind.  One of my gay friends often refers to himself as a "raging old poof".. and a lesbian friend frequently calls herself and partner lezzos, dykes. muff divers, so if they're not offended I don't see why these gonad challenged PC dipsticks need to get their knickers in a knot over it.

I grew up calling a spade a spade, and I'm not gonna start calling it a garden manicure utility because some limp wristed PC pansy uses one to trim the edges of his lawn. I'm not going to stop telling my grandkids nursery rhymes and fairy tales that have been perfectly acceptable for hundreds of years, either.   So if I want to tell them about Old Mother Hubbard, Simple Simon and Little Jack Horner, I'm going to.  Who cares if the PC pansies think Jack Horner should have gotten a smack for not using a spoon... with all the finger food going on these days, it just doesn't matter if he stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum, does it.

For mine, when there's so much greed and corruption in the world, violence, physical abuse and war, I see this petty importance placed on words as an unnecessary distraction that detracts from real issues.  I'd rather see their efforts going toward making our world a safer place to live... a more equitable place to live, where starvation and poverty is a thing of the past.
